Rescue Me ID: 17-11-28-00296Keyla (female)

Mastiff    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Do I look familiar? I'm Keyla. I was adopted this summer, but the family I was with had to return me because I protect my food and toys too much. I know they loved me, and I loved them, but they said I had to come back. Please don't let my age deter you from considering adopting me. I may be 9 years old and a larger pup, but I promise I still have so much love left to give. I am spayed and am well over 100 pounds, so I'm a big lady! I am usually calm if you respect my belongings. I am wonderful with meeting people. I would prefer any children in my new home to be about 13 and older so that they are respectful of me. My owners wanted to ... (Read More)make sure I had a chance at a new rest of my life. I appreciate them for doing that. They loved me very much and took good care of me. My friends here at Michiana have looked me over and they say I really seem to be in pretty good health! I would like it if my new owners had previous experience with large dogs. I'm a smart girl - I know how to sit, stay, give paw, and I walk very nicely on a leash. Treats are the best - yum! I am wonderful at being mostly house-trained and I am not at all destructive when I am left out alone. I love to chew on bones! Regarding other animals, at my age I'd like to live out my golden years in peace. I'd like to keep my food and my toys to myself, it makes me nervous when other animals go near them. I'll do perfectly fine as the only animal in the home. I enjoy the peace and quiet at my age! The shelter can be hard on us older animals, so I'd love to find my next forever family soon. You won't be disappointed if you adopt me. I will always be grateful. Love, Keyla. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-11-23-00160Oenomaus (male)

Mastiff    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Oenomaus is a full blooded Presa Conario that can be a very dedicated and affectionate dog with the right person. Is good with certain dogs and cats. Can be food and cage aggressive if not handled properly. With multiple dog fights with one of my dogs he is separated at a veterinary clinic and will soon be with my sister in law. If he does not fit in there I would need immediate assistance in helping this handsome puppy. He needs very dominant and assertive owners. He was great with my kids, house broke, crate trained (although gets cage aggressive), and highly food motivated. He catches on very quickly and is very submissive with me. ...     Please visit www.michianahumanesociety.org/how-to-adopt for adoption policies and procedures. Introducing the happiest girl around! Not only does Emily have a personality that is basically always so happy to see you, but she actually 'smiles' when she gets excited! She scrunches up her little face and it is so adorable! She is a non-stop wiggle! She couldn't be any sweeter if she tried! She is about 5 years old and is spayed. Emily's temperament with people is just phenomenal. She is so handleable and loves to be near you. She does wonderful with understanding being house-trained and she is not destructive when she is left out alone. ... (Read More)Emily is an energetic girl and is learning manners from the kennel staff. Since being at the shelter, she's learned to sit and her leash-walking behavior is improving! She is very treat-motivated and learned quickly! Emily would do best if she was the only dog in the household. If the resident dog is calm and non-reactive, a slow introduction may be possible! We are still learning what she thinks about cats. Emily is a larger girl, so children around 12 and older would most likely be best for her. As you can see in her pictures, Emily truly loves life. She takes time to stop and smell the flowers but mostly prefers to just be near you. Come on in and visit this beautiful girl! Emily is sure to bring an abundance of love and smiles to her forever family. (Less)

Meet Dually. Dually is a 3 year old presa canario who was rescued from a breeder. Dually can have some trust issues and will need continued training to help build her confidence. She does well with other dogs once she has built trust with them and over time. She typically avoids other dogs and would do well as the only dog in her forever home. She is very laid back and food motivated. Dually is an amazing dog once you break down her walls and gain her trust. Dually is house and crate trained. She would do well as the only dog.     Meet Toby! Toby is a Presa Canario and is almost 2 years old (born Dec 2015). Toby arrived at the sanctuary unsure of everything and zero confidence. He has since opened up. He is a big boy completely unaware of his size. He can be a big scaredy cat who loves to play and can be extremely affectionate. However, he is also very stubborn and bullheaded and doesn't know his own strength. Toby must have a breed experienced owner and needs someone who will be committed to working with him and training him. A strong minded and very assertive owner is a must. He has made great improvement on walking on a leash and does well. Toby is a strong boy ... (Read More)and his adopters will need to continue training with him after adoption.
