Animal ID: 5Texas (male)
Everything is bigger (and better) in Texas!! Texas is a big boy with a great big heart. All the commotion at the shelter had him a little keyed up at the start of our walk, but as soon as we rounded the bend and took a break in the shade, Texas plopped down on the grass and let all the tension go. He put his big ole head in my lap and closed his eyes and soaked up the peace and quiet. Texas enjoys rolling in the grass and chasing butterflies. He is pretty easy to manage on the leash in spite of his larger size and he ignored the kitty that was walking close by. Male; 1 year old; Shepherd mix; 09/19; HW-

Rescue Me ID: 13-11-11-00473Hooch (male)
Hooch is looking for a foster home. Can you help? Hooch is an approximately 7 year old brindle male (possibly a mastiff mix) who was found as a stray. Update 11/11/13 - Hooch has maintained his happy, sweet disposition while at the kennel. He absolutely adores people and wriggles with delight when he spots a visitor -- he also gives the best kisses and leans. He has a very striking Mastiff sized head but is not drooly at all, and takes treats very gently. His coat is velvety soft and shiny with beautiful brindle coloring. Being a distinguished older gentleman, he has a bit of weakness in his rear legs, but that does not keep him from walking briskly and even running slowly during an outside walk. He has not barked at or reacted to other dogs in his general vicinity at the kennel; however, his history with other dogs is not known and some controlled introductions will be required to determine his likes and dislikes. He is a king-sized dog with a king-sized heart, waiting patiently for the perfect family to call his own. Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League can only adopt within its incorporated area (eastern NY, eastern PA, NJ, DE, WV, MD, and VA). For more information on our adoption policies please visit our website: www.magdrl.org To adopt a Great Dane under 2 you must have traditional fencing (no electronic fences permitted). For Danes over 2, please see our website for fencing policies. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-10-28-00184Marco&Rusty (male)
Marco and Rusty turned up homeless at Brooklyn AC&C together. Given their behemoth size at 100+ pounds each and subpar behavior evaluations, they sat there with zero chance at shelter adoption and little rescue interest. They eventually developed the dreaded cough and hit the kill list -- not once but THREE days in a row! Lucky for them, they got reprieves each time. On the third day, we stepped in and took a gamble on these Dogue de Bordeaux brothers. Marco is in a foster home and Rusty is in boarding after spending the weekend at our vet. These boys will be neutered then available for adoption. Send an email to email@example.com with any inquiries. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-09-23-00505Cyrus (male)
Cyrus is a 3yr old Lab/Mastiff in need of a home or foster. (Located in Maryland) He is UTD on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. Cyrus would do well in a structured home with training and rules. He learns quickly and LOVES water. He is a big boy (around 95pounds) and has lots of energy. A home that enjoys outdoor activities and training would be perfect for him. Cyrus does well with other dogs when properly introduced. Please email for more information or to meet Cyrus! thank you.

Mastiff Dogs can make good pets in Maryland if they match your IifestyIe. The Old English Mastiff is a massive breed. Mastiffs are very gentle toward their families. This is an intelligent, protective breed that makes a good guard dog but is unlikely to attack unless severely provoked. Mastiffs behave well with children but should be watched with little ones because of their large size. Mastiffs need gentle training and socialization from an early age. Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
