Mastiff Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Vanna is a 18 month old mastiff mix. She has been spayed and is up-to-date on vaccinations. She is fine around other dogs, not sure about cats. She is house trained, crate trained (a little whiny when you first put her in there but who can blame her), and great on a leash. She weighs about 68 lbs, so a big girl. She is a sweetheart that loves to play! She would be great for an active family or a family that has a fenced in yard to play in. Update 6/22/18: Vanna is currently in the New Leash on Life obedience training program. This is an 8 week course that trains them in basic and advanced commands. It also works on their social skills. ... (Read More)She will not be available for adoption till mid-July, but you can still submit adoption applications. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-05-05-00066Big Bertha (female)

Mastiff Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

MEET BIG BERTHA! She is an 8 year old Valley Bulldog who stands about 4 feet tall and weighs 85 lbs. She is assertive as any typical bulldog breed is known to be and she is physically strong. Here's her story: She was originally an owner surrender to a shelter in Tennessee at 2 & 1/2 years old. She was adopted there and then showed up at a shelter in West Virginia 3 years later. Well, she got adopted again and then this past February she was found running along the interstate in Madison NC. We were called to see if we had room to take her in and find her a permanent new loving home. She has been fully vetted but she did test heartworm ... (Read More)positive which we have started her therapy on. (We are doing the slow kill method with her). Her medicine will be provided and we will waive the adoption fee if we find the perfect adopter for her due to her heartworm condition. However, this is something she will recover from. We have successfully treated many shelter dogs who are now heartworm negative. She is very active, loves to play with toys and is always ready to ride. Whoever had her previously must have been a traveler because she will jump in a car in an instant and tell you to drive on baby! She is dog selective and because of her strength we would recommend her being an only dog UNLESS the potential adopter has bulldog experience and is a strong pack leader. We have been housing her outside in our kennels but with the weather getting warmer, she is a breed who needs to be inside out of the heat. However, when outside for exercise(which she loves) she definitely needs a fenced yard. Bertha is a great girl who will make someone a fabulous companion. And please don't be put off by her age--this sweet girl has a lot of life still in her. Please contact us if you feel you can provide her the loving home she deserves to retire in. (Less)

MEET BELLE!! Our sweet and shy BELLE deserves the fairytale ending the Disney princess got. This 4 year old English Mastiff/German Shepherd mix is a gentle giant. There is nothing better than to be bathed in her sweet kisses and have her bury her head in your lap for ear rubs. Hearing this girl groan in bliss is just too funny! She needs some time to feel safe with new people as she was rescued from a beastly hoarding situation and was clearly abused. But once she develops trust, watch out as she is one happy girl and will great you with an abundance of tail wags and kisses galore. Belle still coming out of her shell, learning to trust and ... PIease Read Before Adopting a Mastiff in North Carolina
Mastiff Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Old English Mastiff is a massive breed. Mastiffs are very gentle toward their families. This is an intelligent, protective breed that makes a good guard dog but is unlikely to attack unless severely provoked. Mastiffs behave well with children but should be watched with little ones because of their large size. Mastiffs need gentle training and socialization from an early age. Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
