If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption ... (Read More)representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chuckles - AVAIL! :) M, 8 y/o, 78 lbs Mastiff / Shepherd mix Neutered Chuckles knows how to sit, lay down, stay, come, and walk on a leash. If you're looking to rescue a big, protective personality who wants to be a good boy for you, Chuckles is your pup! He's a thick, goofy boy, short & stout, and all about belly rubs, back scratches, hugs, and kisses! He has a lot of pep and vitality for his age and loves to wander the backyard, go on daily mile-long walks, and can keep up on jogs! He wants to be indoors with companionship the most. He can be and has been crated daily when needed. He would be best in a one-on-one relationship but ... (Read More)can be co-located with other dogs and cats with an experienced owner willing to work with him. HISTORY: Chuckles ended up at the kill-shelter after a life of neglect. He was abused with collars so embedded in his neck that they had to be removed and treated by a vet. We showed him humans can be kind and gentle. When we rescued Chuckles he was drastically underweight, heartworm positive, had dental issues, and was certain to be destroyed. We had him examined and treated by our hospital veterinarians and our excellent fosters have been providing great care, nutrition, and interaction daily.     Our amazing Oso! He is an 18 month old mastiff mix. He can be a bit unsure when first meeting someone new but then bonds quickly. He LOVES to play! Especially ball and makes the funniest noises when he sees you! We have not yet dog tested but he seems non reactive. He came to us from a home with cats and was interested when he met our tester cat but may be ok. He seems to like kids but we prefer to place him in a home with teens and older due to his size. Mastiff Mix    Age: Senior

Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Please help me find a loving home for Brutus. I am in a bind to find a new home for him before I relent to my final option of the shelter where I am sure he will be euthanized cause he's an old dog. brutus is 10 years old and i have had him since he was a puppy. It is with a heavy heart that I try to find a new home for him. I now have a one year old daughter who essentially harasses Brutus non-stop, and Brutus has shown some annoyance with it. He has not bitten my daughter, but has growled, and that is enough for me to consider giving him away. Brutus likes to go on walks regardless of some arthritis issues. Brutus spends the majority ... (Read More)of the day napping in the sunny spot of a room. He has always been an indoor dog. He does get along well with adults and older kids, just not youngins that constantly pull on tails and climb all over him. He has lived with my other female mastiff mix (who unfortunately I need to find a home for as well). He got along fine with her, but I don't think he gets along well with strang dogs or cats. If you have a space in your heart for my Brutus Bear, I would be forever grateful! It pains me so much to do this, but I have been left with very little options. (Less)

This is an intelligent, protective breed that makes a good guard dog but is unlikely to attack unless severely provoked. Mastiffs behave well with children but should be watched with little ones because of their large size. Mastiffs need gentle training and socialization from an early age. Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
