We love this dog. My youngest son received her through Make-A-Wish before he passed away 5 years ago. She's very loving and we couldn't ask for a better fur baby!!!! However I'm working two jobs and she isn't getting the attention she needs, it's unfair to her. I just want her to be with a very loving family that will enjoy her as much as we have!!!!

|Rescue Me ID: 17-08-16-00259Maximus (male)|
Hi there. My name is Maximus. I'm about 3 years old and I weigh about 70 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Hanoverton area and I was picked up by the pound. I am a very super nice, friendly, happy dog looking for a home. I absolutely love people and I have been good with all of the other dogs I have been around since I have been here at the pound. I am a very clean boy in my kennel. I appear to have been a house dog at some point because I keep my kennel so clean at night and I am a good boy when I'm inside the office. If you're looking for a great dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. Looking to find her a forever home. She is good around young and old people. She is in the puppy teething stage also. Will be a good dog but we are unable to keep her. She does like to jump and since she is part Mastiff she should get formal training.

|Rescue Me ID: 17-07-27-00394Duke (male)|
Hi I am Duke!! A purebred American Bull-Mastiff (AKC Registered) full of life and fun. I am gentle great and fun loving giant. I love my head and belly being rubbed. But most of all I love being with people. My current family relocated from the west coast to Ohio, and did not want to give me up, but their current situation did not afford me the lifestyle I am accustomed. Running, playing and relaxing, and snuggling. They love me, but are just not able to keep me. I am looking for a good home with a good family. I love being with kids and playing fetch during the long days. During the evening I really enjoy long walks, then a nice relaxing nap when we return; snuggled up with my new family. I am house and crate trained, but had some #1 accidents on rare occasion. I am looking forward to meeting my new family soon. I am a larger mastiff, but I think I am a lap dog. I weigh in at 130lbs, and the only thing you will have to watch out for is drooling jowls. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 17-07-27-00082Aurora (female)|
Aurora is a roughly 9 month old Argentine Mastiff pup. She still has some puppy energy but loves to snuggle and chew on her bone. She has never had issues with any kids that she's been around. She is crate trained, house broken, up to date on shots and is spayed. She has gone through training classes at Milligan Valley Dog Training. She has grown up in a house with older male dogs who are more calm and she has always been fine with them. However she tends to get testy with younger smaller more hyper dogs that get in her face. Please feel free to contact me for more information.

Aurora is an argentine Mastiff pup who is looking for a new owner because she is so young and still has that puppy energy and her owner is pregnant. She is beautiful and has gone through multiple levels of extensive training classes at Milligan Valley Dog Training. She would do great in a home where she is either the only dog or with an older more calm male dog.

|Rescue Me ID: 17-07-05-00248Vinny (male)|
Vinny shouldn't be with small animals but is good with larger dogs. He would be best with adults and older children due to his size and strength. He will need a home with experienced mastiff owners. He is approximately 2-3 years old, UTD on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. He is housebroken and crate trained. His adoption fee is $150. Interested? App at link below.

Roscoe is a great dog. He is a 1 year old (may 25, 2016) mutt and loves to be the center of attention. We rescued him from a bad situation and already have a dog and Roscoe is a very jealous/affectionate dog. He is great alone, but not with another dog.

He weighs about 150lbs. He is a beautiful red hair mastiff. My wife and I took him after our daughter bought him as a puppy. He has lived with us since about 2010. He is a dog that needs to be outdoors more often. We have done our best to take care of him but we are moving to a smaller place and can not take him with us. He is a good dog but only has known us his whole life. He made need a little adjusting to new owners. But he is a very loving dog to us.

|Animal ID: 403309Chuckles (male)|
Chuckles - AVAIL! :) M, 8 y/o, 78 lbs Mastiff / Shepherd mix Neutered Chuckles respects strong but fair leadership so he'd be best with either a man or a woman who can give him that leadership. In return he is very loyal, protective, and soft-hearted to those he trusts, all about belly rubs, back scratches, hugs, and kisses! Chuckles knows the commands: sit, lay down, stay, come, and heel. He's a thick, goofy boy, short & stout and has a lot of pep and vitality. He loves to wander the backyard, go on daily mile-long walks, and even keeps up on jogs! But he seeks indoor companionship the most. He is crate trained and can be crated when you're not home or overnight. He would be best in a one-on-one relationship but can be co-located with other dogs as well with proper supervision. Not recommended for homes with cats/small animals. SPECIAL OFFER: Thank you to AlphA and Omega Dog Training who has graciously provided in-home obedience training for Chuckles! They will provide 1 hour of training to whomever adopts Chuckles to show you how to lead with the verbal and visual commands that Chuckles has learned to follow. HISTORY: Chuckles ended up at the kill-shelter after a life of neglect. He was abused with collars so embedded in his neck that they had to be removed and treated by a vet. We showed him humans can be kind and gentle. When we rescued Chuckles he was drastically underweight, heartworm positive, had dental issues, and was certain to be destroyed. We had him examined and treated by our hospital veterinarians and our excellent fosters have been providing great care, nutrition, and interaction daily. |Rescue Me ID: 16-12-07-00111Oso (male)|
Our amazing Oso! He is an 18 month old mastiff mix. He can be a bit unsure when first meeting someone new but then bonds quickly. He LOVES to play! Especially ball and makes the funniest noises when he sees you! We have not yet dog tested but he seems non reactive. He came to us from a home with cats and was interested when he met our tester cat but may be ok. He seems to like kids but we prefer to place him in a home with teens and older due to his size. |PIease Read Before Adopting a Mastiff in Ohio|
Mastiff Dogs can make good pets in Ohio if they match your IifestyIe. The Old English Mastiff is a massive breed. Mastiffs are very gentle toward their families. This is an intelligent, protective breed that makes a good guard dog but is unlikely to attack unless severely provoked. Mastiffs behave well with children but should be watched with little ones because of their large size. Mastiffs need gentle training and socialization from an early age. Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
