Rescue Me ID: 14-09-05-00154Asia (female)

Mastiff Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I am in desperate need of help. Asia is a five year old female brindle boxer, rottie, mastiff mix; around 90 lbs; (see two pictures attached) she's spayed and has a micro chip; she is up to date on shots. Asia is highly trainable - listens to commands and is lovable with my teenage kids. She's good with the little neighborhood kids too that come up to pet her when we're walking. On walks, Asia is fine with squirrels, rabbits, geese, birds and toads (lol); She looks their way and keeps walking, undisturbed. She just gets anxious and excited when she sees a cat or another dog. However, that being said, she lived with another large dog ... (Read More)when I adopted her from a family. They said it took time to acclimate them, but they were fine and lovable with each other. Unfortunately she does not get along with my four cats. My cats have been secluded in a bedroom since October 2013. Recently (for the second time) she's pushed passed me into the 'cat room' and got to one of my cats. Very strange, no growling or barking - she just kind of had her mouth around his stomach with him in a corner. She did not break his skin -no blood. We were able to separate them and get Asia back down stairs. My cat is fine thank heavens. It's not fair to our four cats to be locked away in a bedroom. I contacted the previous owners back in December to ask they take Asia back, but they would not. I've been trying to re-home Asia since last December and I've posted on my own Facebook page and created a separate FB page for Asia called 'Asia is Looking for a Forever Home' making it available for public view and asking friends to share. The folks showing interest either have another dog or a cat and don't want to take Asia when they hear she's not completely social. I am at my wit's end and rather desperate right now. I need to place Asia in a shelter, foster home or re-home her as soon as possible. I cannot bear the thought of surrendering her to the SPCA. This breaks our hearts; she is really a loving part of our family, just not the right fit for our cats. (Less)

Odin is the best dog I've ever owned the only reason he is going up for adoption is due to space. I originally bought him for my daughter but over the last four years our family has grown to 5 with another baby on the way next month. My 1000 Sq ft home can not accommodate 6 people including 2 babies and odin. With all the baby gear his living space has been reduced to the upstairs hallway and the kitchen. It's not fair to him otherwise he wouldn't be going anywhere. He is extremely gentle and patient with the kids and cautious of his size when around the baby. He is housebroken. Raised with cats. He is good with most dogs however can ... (Read More)get scared with smaller dogs or dogs that bark a lot. He is good around most people but can become scared of some men. He only barks when someone comes to the door. He is obsessed with stuffed animals otherwise he's never chewed on anything in my house. He has never rip up the trash. he walks ok on a leash but could use a little more training. He is a fantastic family dog anyone would be lucky to have him. I must visit your home and meet all the members of your household before adoption. Local inquiries only (ie. within 2 hour drive of Philadelphia). Sorry for any inconvenience. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Mastiff in Pennsylvania
Mastiff Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. The Old English Mastiff is a massive breed. Mastiffs are very gentle toward their families. This is an intelligent, protective breed that makes a good guard dog but is unlikely to attack unless severely provoked. Mastiffs behave well with children but should be watched with little ones because of their large size. Mastiffs need gentle training and socialization from an early age. Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
