Rescue Me ID: 16-03-25-00526Duke (male)

Mastiff Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered

Duke is an extremely loving and playful dog that is looking for his FOREVER home. This requires a lot of dedication and possibly some expense from his new parents - he has been in a shelter twice, been in 4 homes, and is very young for this kind of turn around. Being a lab, he's extremely attached to his people and never wants them to leave. When they leave, Duke's anxiety takes over and he makes poor choices. He is extremely strong and is figuring out how big he is very quickly. He is also an escape artist, no matter how 'tough' or 'tall' the fence may be. He is terrified of kennels or cages and has always found a way to get out of them. If ... (Read More)you leave him home, and leave things around (shoes, food, remotes, etc) he will find them and he will destroy them. Duke needs somebody who is willing to give him the training, time, and LOVE he needs to thrive in this world. I do not believe a needs a behavioral specialist, but definitely needs obedience and anxiety training. He also needs a family that will not give up on him and knows that he needs time to learn the right things. (Less)

Mastiff Dogs can make good pets in Wyoming if they match your IifestyIe. The Old English Mastiff is a massive breed. Mastiffs are very gentle toward their families. This is an intelligent, protective breed that makes a good guard dog but is unlikely to attack unless severely provoked. Mastiffs behave well with children but should be watched with little ones because of their large size. Mastiffs need gentle training and socialization from an early age. Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
