Rescue Me ID: 14-09-21-00476Portia (female)

Mastiff Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Portia. She is approximately 18 months old with a lovely temperament. Her carers had a DNA test completed on her and now know that she is Mastiff/Miniature Bull Terrier Cross on one side and Bulldog/Great Dane Cross on the other. She is mostly black in colour with some white patches and brindle on her legs. She was found starving and malnourished, with no collar or micro-chip, on the streets of Coolah. Portia is now house-trained, can use a doggy door (which she amazingly fits through) and understands basic instructions. She has been receiving some behaviour training which will need to be continued in her new home. She is getting ... (Read More)better at not jumping and learning to sit before she is fed. Now that she is no longer stressed and in a routine, it is easier for her to learn better manners. However, she is still a little excitable and would suit a family with older children who are experienced with larger dogs. Portia also gets along very well with her foster sister, Boo (Kelpie x), but would probably fare better as an only dog. When we took Portia to the busy, local markets, she walked calmly around and even let a couple of children pat her. She is a well-behaved, intelligent and loyal girl who would suit most family situations; although she hasn't been observed around cats. Portia would be very good to have around the home, because she is very protective of her humans. Having said that, Portia is not known to bark without reason. Portia has been sleeping indoors at her carers, but is a little too big for the bed. Portia is de-sexed, fully vaccinated, micro-chipped, wormed and is in urgent need of a good home, temporary or otherwise. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Mastiff in Australia
Mastiff Dogs can make good pets in Australia if they match your IifestyIe. The Old English Mastiff is a massive breed. Mastiffs are very gentle toward their families. This is an intelligent, protective breed that makes a good guard dog but is unlikely to attack unless severely provoked. Mastiffs behave well with children but should be watched with little ones because of their large size. Mastiffs need gentle training and socialization from an early age. Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
