|Rescue Me ID: 14-03-26-00495Rafa (male)|
Rafa was rescued in a starving condition from Spain about 9 months ago. He was rehomed into a family with children but as he has relaxed and gained strength and confidence, his fears of children have come out and he is displaying fear aggression through growling at them. He has not bitten them. He is fine with other animals unless they are entire males -he has had a couple of vicious fights with them. He has no conception of boundaries so needs a walled garden. He fears an environment that is too built up. He also fears hunger so can be very defensive of anything he scavenges. He is learning to play and be a puppy and test boundaries but because of his size and strength this needs careful management. He loves adult company. He needs an adult home where the owners are experienced, strong, and able to put a lot of time in over months if not years to train him, ideally with professional input, and give him a good 2 hours of exercise a day to discharge his great energy. Despite being generally ok with other animals (not entire males), he probably needs to be the only canine pet. If Rafa can find an owner who can give him all this then he will make a very fine dog, even if he will never be anyone's lapdog. (Less)

Mastiff Dogs can make good pets in UK if they match your IifestyIe. The Old English Mastiff is a massive breed. Mastiffs are very gentle toward their families. This is an intelligent, protective breed that makes a good guard dog but is unlikely to attack unless severely provoked. Mastiffs behave well with children but should be watched with little ones because of their large size. Mastiffs need gentle training and socialization from an early age. Mastiffs can live in an apartment or a home with a small yard.
